AIA Service Contract in South Africa Renewed

TÜV Rheinland has extended a framework agreement to provide authorized inspection agency (AIA) services to a South African energy agency for another five years. Signed in 2016, the new contract will renew services to eight power stations nationwide.

The scope of services is to include performing three statutory yearly inspections of pressure vessels and steam generators, verifying welding procedures and welder qualifications, investigating failure of pressure vessels, steam generators and pressurized equipment, assessing conformity of imported vessels according to local regulations and providing QC inspections services. Up to five inspectors are on site at each station during scheduled maintenance periods of no more than three months.

Trusted Partner for Inspection Services

Having been involved with the customer for over forty years, TÜV Rheinland has received continuous recognition from various institutions for its proven commitment towards training new inspectors.

This has positively affected the company by stabilizing internal competences. The same team of TÜV Rheinland inspectors has been serving this particular client for more than ten years!

Keeping in line with our previous strategy of deploying inspectors with interdisciplinary technical competencies, all primary TÜV Rheinland resident inspectors at each power station have triple qualifications as Inspector of Pressure Equipment (IPE), Competent Person Steam Generator (CPSG) and Competent Person Pressure Vessels (CPPV). This approach has been successfully used from the erection to in-service stages to maximize the level of experience and expertise, and optimize the efficiency of our inspectors responsible for servicing customer needs.

As a result, TÜV Rheinland has benefited from a deep understanding of each power station, allowing for proactive problem solving when faced with aging or other operational challenges. Most issues can be handily resolved within the local network. In cases of unique or more complex problems, inspectors are able to access colleagues from around the world to implement the best international practices, providing us an advantage over our competitors.

With this new agreement, TÜV Rheinland is now strongly positioned for further collaboration with the customer beyond the current five-year term.
